This semester has been a learning experience for me as a writer. I came into English 1102 expecting it to be somewhat difficult, and my assumptions were right. The class was difficult for me because I had a hard time narrowing down my topics. However, as the semester went on, I kind of got the hang of narrowing down my topic. This class helped me realize that it is imperative to have a narrow topic within a topic because it is easier to read it reader and it is easier to write when you have a set topic. I also see that it is important to have a narrow topic because it is easier to follow a thesis when you know exactly what is going to be discussed in a paper. Being in this class has taught me to pay more attention to my writing. Being in this class has also taught how to elaborate on my ideas to make them make more sense because the critical thinking part of the class made me ask my self several questions as I was typing and re rereading my papers. I have noticed a change in my writing style, I am more aware of what I did wrong, at one point in time I would get corrections back not realizing what was wrong with the paper. Although I learned a lot in this class, I still need to fine-tune my word choices and although I kind of got the hang of narrowing my topic, I could still use some help in that area. Along with that I want to learn more on make strong points throughout my papers, a strong thesis, I want to make better transition sentences, and stronger closing paragraphs. Although I feel that I still have a lot to work on, being in this class has taught me that writing is a process that can get better with every draft.
