April showers bring May flowers

This semester has been a learning experience for me as a writer. I came into English 1102 expecting it to be somewhat difficult, and my assumptions were right. The class was difficult for me because I had a hard time narrowing down my topics. However, as the semester went on, I kind of got the hang of narrowing down my topic. This class helped me realize that it is imperative to have a narrow topic within a topic because it is easier to read it reader and it is easier to write when you have a set topic. I also see that it is important to have a narrow topic because it is easier to follow a thesis when you know exactly what is going to be discussed in a paper. Being in this class has taught me to pay more attention to my writing. Being in this class has also taught how to elaborate on my ideas to make them make more sense because the critical thinking part of the class made me ask my self several questions as I was typing and re rereading my papers. I have noticed a change in my writing style, I am more aware of what I did wrong, at one point in time I would get corrections back not realizing what was wrong with the paper. Although I learned a lot in this class, I still need to fine-tune my word choices and although I kind of got the hang of narrowing my topic, I could still use some help in that area. Along with that I want to learn more on make strong points throughout my papers, a strong thesis, I want to make better transition sentences, and stronger closing paragraphs. Although I feel that I still have a lot to work on, being in this class has taught me that writing is a process that can get better with every draft.

I can SO go without my...

In these days of technology, it seems as if no one can live without any aspect of his or her technology life. Cell phones, TV, ipods, Zunes, and any other contraption that it out there in the world of technology, these gadgets make such an impact on our lives to the point where we wonder what was life like before these little things came about. We love these gadgets so much, some would feel like the world is over if we had to go without these little life enhancers for a few days. I really appreciate technology, but one thing I can go without in my little collection of technology is my Zune. The Zune is an MP3 player it is kind of like an ipod, but it is made from Microsoft instead of Apple. I can live without this because it I can go without listening to music walking to class and those types of things that don’t require listening to music. Besides, I have music on my computer and I can listen to my music that way, although it won’t be convenient like carrying my Zune around. That’s the good thing about technology these days, it is always replaceable. If I don’t have my Zune, I can listen to music via my laptop and cell phone. It’s not like I would be going without music, it’s just that I would be going without a certain form of getting my music. In this marvelous world of technology, I can go without my simple music player. What can you go without?

????????????

Think of a recent experience in your life that has generated questions for you—for example, reading a book or magazine, watching a film or TV show, participating in a class discussion, or observing an incident in the dorms. Briefly describe the experience and them, based on your ponderings pose several questions arising from the experience that you think are problematic, significant and interesting.
Now that I have been in college for almost two semesters, I’ve realized that people, for the most part, look out for themselves, it is very few tht will have you genuine interest in mind. My family always told me that befor college started, but, I thought that they were over exaggerating. My experience is, I went to a party with my friends and they left me with no explanation. I also notice that girls do a lot here to get attention. I also notices that most guys want one thing.Which makes me wonder:
Why are people so selfish?
Why do people do so much for attention?
If a person does not have your best interet in mind, why would they even be your friend?
Why do girls not realize that guys like the chase and that if a girl follows them, it is not gonna work?
Why do guys always think about one thing?
Why do guys so silly at this age?
Why are some girls so silly at this age?

Everything really is an argument

Hard Times Inspire Some to Look to the Stars

Much of the world is focused on the economy. But some are making an extra effort to look beyond our little planet, arguing that this age of uncertainty is a good time to dream mankind's biggest dreams.

  • This headline caught my eye because I like looking at the stars. This headline also could catch the eye of those who are going through hard times,it’s telling them to look beyond their economic problems. Even if the person going through hard time doesn’t read the article, they can read the headline and get a new idea on how to relieve stress.

Everything Taking Too Long 03.24.09

WASHINGTON—Between eye rolls, sighs, and repeated glances at wall clocks, the majority of Americans are reporting that the nation badly needs to pick up the pace

  • This headline seems to be poking fun at how Americans rush things. It is arguing that America is lowing down and needs to pic up its pace.

Warning sought for burger the size of your head

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The West Michigan Whitecaps say they have no plans to put a warning label on an enormous new hamburger they're selling this season — despite a vegan advocacy group's request to do just that.

  • This article’s title is an argument in itself to make people click on it and read it. This article is making the burger seem unhealthy my comparing it to the size of a head. When the buger is put in that sense, then more people will agree with a warning label coming with the burger.

Ohio man charged with drunken driving on bar stool
NEWARK, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in Ohio say a man has been charged with drunken driving after crashing his motorized bar stool.

  • This argument is arguing that a man was driving drunk on a bar stool.

The Gatsby dream

In the film the American Dream in portrayed as wealth via cars, houses, clothing, vacations, affairs, parties, etc. The dream is also portrayed as superiority over others, not only through wealth, but race as well, I say this because Tom mentioned the book The Rise of the Colored Empires. Tom seemed to think the ideas of the book were correct. Also, the film made the American dream exclusive and if someone didn't meet the standards of that dream then they were not even allowed to marry into it. An example of this is when Dasiy asked Nick how much money he made so that he can marry Jordan. When Nick told her preety much nothing, she told him that he and Jordan can just have an affair .How the American dream is portrayed in the film shows that the American dream can be perceived differently in the eyes if different people. It also, in my opinion shows the negative side of the American dream, negative things such as alcohol abuse and getting dirty money.

DisTAnt lOver!

Since we can write about whatever we feel, I’m going to just write about what I’m thinking about now. I’m going to entitle this “Distant Lover”; this is for a person who is very special to me.

Distant lover, we met by chance 3 years ago .Who would have thought I would begin to feel for you like this? I love you, but pride won’t let me say those three little words to you. I think that you love me too, but your pride is the same as mine. We are too worried about letting our emotions shine through, too worried about getting hurt by the other person, but I won’t hurt you, for you mean the world to me. I also know that you won’t hurt me; at least I hope you won’t, I mean at least you say that you won’t. I know that we are young and we should keep our options open, but it is hard for me to do that when you are everything that I want and look for in a guy, you make it hard for me to be with anyone else, whether you know it not. I know I might be too young to say this, but, sometimes when I look at me, I see you. Now you are sooo many miles away from me, and it really hurts me, although I appreciate your phone calls and messages, that doesn’t make up for your touch and presence that I miss L. I can’t wait until you come back to America! I miss you!

Media....what happened?

I think that it is apart of the American dream to be able to convey the news how you would like because I feel that it is apart of freedom of speech. I think that being able to get the news out there how you want it ensures that you will be heard. Sometimes people may feel that the news is wrong and their opinions of the news at hand is correct, therefore they make a blog or a you tube video to get their point across to the public.

On the other hand, blogging and putting videos up on you tube ruins the value of true journalist who go out into the world to ensure that they are giving you correct information. I feel that being able to blog and post videos on the internet makes everyone feel equal. But I feel that it is really hurting the journalism world because people aren’t really reading or buying certain magazines or newspapers that they used to because they can get the same story off of you tube or they can even make up a story of their own to post.

I am straddling the fence on this idea because, although I feel that it is apart of the American dream to have the opportunity to be heard and I think that blogging and you tube is a great way to be heard, it devalues and discourages those who really have a passion for journalism.
