In the film the American Dream in portrayed as wealth via cars, houses, clothing, vacations, affairs, parties, etc. The dream is also portrayed as superiority over others, not only through wealth, but race as well, I say this because Tom mentioned the book The Rise of the Colored Empires. Tom seemed to think the ideas of the book were correct. Also, the film made the American dream exclusive and if someone didn't meet the standards of that dream then they were not even allowed to marry into it. An example of this is when Dasiy asked Nick how much money he made so that he can marry Jordan. When Nick told her preety much nothing, she told him that he and Jordan can just have an affair .How the American dream is portrayed in the film shows that the American dream can be perceived differently in the eyes if different people. It also, in my opinion shows the negative side of the American dream, negative things such as alcohol abuse and getting dirty money.
