MY COLLEGE EXPERIENCE SO FAR

Since this is the last semester of my freshman year and have gotten use to Georgia State, I want to share with you my experiences so far, from the beginning to where I am now. I remember this time last year I was a high school senior, anticipating coming to Georgia State and it doesn’t seem so long ago. I remember getting the “pre- freshmen” jitters because I was the only person that I knew coming to GSU and that meant that I would have to start over and make new friends. To help make friends, I began to add people on Facebook who had on their pages that they were going to GSU and I began to talk to them and saw that they had the same fears that I did, which eased mine because I saw that I wasn’t the only person going through the fear of starting over.
My first day of school was ok, I walked around by myself and found classes and I met a few new people along the way, but I hardly see them or speak to them now though. I really did not have a hard time adjusting to being on my own, and I never got homesick, and to this day I haven’t been homesick. During my first semester I was in a freshmen learning community and although I met great people in the community, I kind of regret being in one because the GSU 1010 did not count towards hours and looking back, I took classes that I was not interested in, but I managed to do very well my first semester. During my first semester I was in a party promotion group, which meant I got into pretty much any party I wanted to go to for free, I really enjoyed that and I met great people through it. Overall, I can honestly say that I had a great first semester and I am glad that I could manage my party and school life without losing myself in the city of Atlanta.

My second semester is going pretty good so far, I have a lot more studying to do though. I am still going out to parties and I am still meeting new people. I really hope that I continue to keep myself in line and do well in this semester to keep my HOPE scholarship. The only problem that I am having so far is lack of sleep, but what college student isn’t having that problem

"You Have No Friends"

Believer
First, I'd like to say that I LOVE facebook and that I'm quite an addict, I get on several times a day from my computer and even my phone! As a matter-of-fact, I did pause in the in the middle of the article to check my facebook. But, anyway, I agree with the author because although facebook may be time consuming I am able to keep in touch with friends from high school and with my friend who lives in Paris now. Facebook is also a great way to meet new people.Facebook helped me adjust to GSU before I came because I met people who were going to GSU and they were just as nervous as I was.I remember at one point in time, one could not imagine having a cell phone now one cannot see how they once lived without a cell phone, and that is exactly how facebook is for those who are regular users of facebook. I feel that this article was convincing to those who feel that they do not want a facebook because the author used personal examples which in turn make it easier for people to relate and maybe want to try to get a facebook. The author also made great counter arguments.

Doubter
This part is dificult to write for me because I have a bias opinion about facebook. As a doubter, the author did not really convince to join facebook because he was not clear on why I should join. Just because he had a great experience from facebook doesn't mean that I would.I can see where people would want privacy and although facebook has privacy settings, people can still see what is going on in your life. He was not convincing enough to me as to how people could be stopped from seeing certain things on your page. If I were a doubter, I would not be convinced because I would want to spend time doing other things besides sitting on facebook all day and night.

My Defintion of the "American Dream"

When I hear American dream I think of a house, a white picket fence, and a family unit that consists of a heterosexual, married couple and two children, although that is not my dream that is the image that comes to mind. I think that the American dream is to free to do what you want to do. I think the overall dream of most Americans is to do what they want to do because in most countries they would not be able to do certain things. The house and picket fence that comes to mind shows that Americans are free to own land and have personal space, whereas in other countries one might not be able to do so. The heterosexual, married couple that comes to mind in my image could have been a gay couple. Although I don’t necessarily agree with being gay, my opinion doesn’t matter to those who chose to live that way, which is a part of the American dream, to be able to do what you want to do without being persecuted for the lifestyle that you have chosen. Also, the two kids that come to mind may have been more, whereas in other countries they are over populated were people are only allowed to have one and if the couple goes over the limit of one then the second child is killed. I believe that America is a place full of endless possibilities and opportunities, which leads to my American dream. My American dream is to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way and to live my life to the fullest.
