My Defintion of the "American Dream"

When I hear American dream I think of a house, a white picket fence, and a family unit that consists of a heterosexual, married couple and two children, although that is not my dream that is the image that comes to mind. I think that the American dream is to free to do what you want to do. I think the overall dream of most Americans is to do what they want to do because in most countries they would not be able to do certain things. The house and picket fence that comes to mind shows that Americans are free to own land and have personal space, whereas in other countries one might not be able to do so. The heterosexual, married couple that comes to mind in my image could have been a gay couple. Although I don’t necessarily agree with being gay, my opinion doesn’t matter to those who chose to live that way, which is a part of the American dream, to be able to do what you want to do without being persecuted for the lifestyle that you have chosen. Also, the two kids that come to mind may have been more, whereas in other countries they are over populated were people are only allowed to have one and if the couple goes over the limit of one then the second child is killed. I believe that America is a place full of endless possibilities and opportunities, which leads to my American dream. My American dream is to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way and to live my life to the fullest.
